Back to Port Cartier via the dirt road through the Reserve, we crossed the railway at Able Siding where we heard an approaching train of empties, heading up country to the mine at Fermont. In the late 1990s the Cartier was upgrading some of their large six axle power, such as lead M636 83 with electronic components. The second locomotive, 77, is one of the original Alco C636 demonstrators, built in one final attempt to secure Alco's future. Regrettably it failed.
