Trenitalia
Pictures taken during a number of Italian holidays between 1991 and 2003. Strangely I've not been back since going digital, except for a day in Trieste in 2007 en-route to Croatia and then the only pictures I took were of the Opicina tramway. Like many European countries Italy does railways on a very grand scale indeed, although that involves enormous public subsidy. To overcome some of the limitations imposed by its geography Italy has undertaken much new construction over the past 50 years, providing the country with the backbone of a high speed railway network.
