Table 26 - Anglo Scottish Sleepers
The sheer number of trains with sleeping cars which left King's Cross for Scotland is amazing. Only two, the Night Aberdonian and the Night Scotsman, were exclusively sleepers the remainder were a mixture of ordinary coaches and sleepers. Most of my early forays to Scotland were on board these overnight trains, sitting up in a Mk 1 compartment, wearily wiping the condensation off the window as we stopped at Wigan North Western or Newark Northgate in the wee small hours. King's Cross was still the point of departure for Fort William, as it had been since the days of the LNER.
