It was in 1999 that the GM-EMD class 66 really started to dominate railfreight in Britain. Prior to that I had only seen one 66, back in December the previous year working an intermodal train from Dollands Moor to Wembley. But that was soon to change and by the end of the year they were pretty much everywhere.

22nd January; Caledonian Road & Barnsbury. 47308 on the bi-directional freight line on the 4M54 Tilbury to Crewe.
Westenhanger 13th February; 92004 on the 6O58 Wembley to Dollands Moor Connectrail wagonload service. At DM it becomes train 4408 to Lille (Somain). Today this scene is unrecognisable, Westenhanger is still there but all the land to the right is now High Speed One.
Like many ex South Eastern Railway stations Westenhanger's platforms are staggered. 92031 is approaching from the direction of Sandling on the 6B32 Connectrail service to Wembley, which started from Somain as train 4403 at 06:51 (CET).
Here's the same train passing Snarkhurst Wood, between Hollingbourne and Bearstead.
23rd February, Brandon; Forest Enterprise loaded timber at Brandon during the winter of 1999, here the loading is well underway for today's train, which ran twice weekly if I recall correctly from Brandon to March (6G30 Brandon to March and 6G31 March to Brandon). At March the timber was picked up and the empties dropped off by the Ely to Doncaster Enterprise trip.
Whilst that was on-going 60085 pulled into Brandon, and took the loop beyond the station, with the 6P39 March to Norwich Trowse.
The 60 was looped for a Liverpool to Norwich DMU, after the DMU passed 60085 is underway again passing Santon Downham.
The two axle OTA timber carriers
31154 was the train engine, preparing to pull the loaded train out of the yard prior to running round and setting off westwards.
