I have always had a very strong attachment to the counties of East Anglia, my mum's side of the family can trace their ancestry back 200 plus years to Sheringham in North Norfolk, where my great grandfather x 12, John Shinkfield, was the blacksmith and is buried in the churchyard of what is now the parish church of Upper Sheringham. The family probably originated in the Netherlands, moving to Norfolk at some time in the sixteenth or seventeenth century, possibly for religious reasons.
Consequently I probably take more pictures of the railways of East Angllia than anywhere else. This gallery brings them all together.
May 13th 1996. A lovely day in East Anglia, 58029 takinga turn round the Ely Loop on the Middleton Towers to Barnby Dun sand train. The loop was in the process of being relaid and singled. Incidentally it still remains a one way loop, that signal awaiting commissioning in the background is still there and still awaiting commissioning in 2012!
