The 18th January brought the first significant snowfall of the year to Southern Britain. I was in Central London on Friday and managed a few pictures as I travelled from St Johns Wood back to North London.

On Saturday morning I went out to Manea getting a couple of pictures in the rather gloomy light.

More snow fell on Sunday 20th which rendered Monday's journey to work somewhat fraught as Network Rail and Southern somehow contrived to miss the forecasts and seemingly took no precautions, resulting in chaotic scenes at London Bridge, East Croydon and Three Bridges. Not a great start to the week. By Friday a thaw had started which accelerated dramatically overnight and by Saturday afternoon the snow was all but gone.

An appointment in St John's Wood offered me an opportunity of this shot of a Chiltern 165 arriving in Marylebone in this morning's long awaited snow storm.
Making my way home I changed trains at Gospel Oak where a pair of 378s pass each other.
Behind the 378 came 66502 on Freightliner's 4L31 Bristol to Felixstowe. Despite the weather it was running on time.
First Hull Trains class 180s are maintained at the custom built facility at Old Oak Common, necessitating the occasional ecs from Old Oak to Hornsey via Willesden, Gospel Oak and the Harringay Park Junction to Harringay West spur. 180109 is approaching Upper Holloway en-route to Hornsey
Running about 10 minutes late a rather sparsely filled 4E24 Thamsport to Leeds approaching Crouch Hill and slowing to take the spur up to the ECML at Harringay Park Junction, following 180 109.
Crouch Hill; I had hoped to see both the 4M71 and 4L48 but neither had showed by 14:00, instead here is 172 008 on the 13:45 arrival from Barking
And in place of the 4L48 a stoneblower heading east.
Saturday 19th; a Birmingham New Street to Stansted Airport class 170 speeding past Manea
In the opposite direction, under a leaden sky the 4E22 Felixstowe to Leeds approaching Manea from the east.
